Game 5 Rematch

Game #5 of the Indy Hurling league saw the most competitive game of the series to date with Connors just edging Flynn's in the last 5 minutes on a score-line of 25 pts to 20pts. Both teams showed great effort, execution and energy. As has become the norm in recent games, Flynn's raced into a strong first half lead with some spirited play and excellent scores from Neal Mulrooney, Drew Calvert and Dave Maish. Flynn's dominated on the scoreboard right to the half-time whistle, while Connors just couldn't convert the chances they were creating. The second half saw a big improvement from Connors. They really upped the tempo and finally began to translate some of those opportunities into scores on the board. Great inter-play between Mike Monaghan, Richard Connolly, Colin Conlon and Kyle Laprees began to pay dividends as Connors clawed their way back into the game. Flynn's weren't about to go under easily though and they scored another goal which took a little of the wind from Connors sails. From there, the game continued to ebb and flow to the very end with only a point or two separating the teams. That was until Brian Church secured his place in Connors folklore with a well-taken goal a couple of minutes from the final whistle. Once again, Rudy Nehrling and Jason Crace were on top form for the Flynn's defense, ably assisted by Jonathan tobin and Eric Radersdorf. For Connors, Brian Church had an excellent game as did Jim Kelly, Brian Mathes and Matt Glasheen who all repelled many of the Flynn's attacks. Thanks to our family & friends, and some new faces in the crowd, including ball-girl extraordinaire Ms Patsy Greene from Ireland, for coming to show your support for the game of hurling,- we appreciate it as always!

Connors and Flynns fight to a draw!

A tight, exciting finish saw Connors and Flynn's share the spoils at Richardt Park, Sunday 17 June 2007, on a score-line of 3-6 to 4-3. There were some excellent scores produced by both sides exemplifying all that progress being made by both teams as they strive to be crowned Indy Hurling league champions for 2007. Once again, Pat Flynn's started the brighter and established an early lead with an opportunist goal by Drew Calvert. However, Connors quickly responded and brought themselves back into the game with some well-taken points from distance by Brian Church (he certainly brought his "A" game today) and a great passage of team interplay involving Kyle LaPrees, which was finished to the back of the net by Richard Connolly past Jason Crace in the Flynn's goal - who earlier had produced a stunning save to deny the same player. The second half saw Connors up their tempo, and stretch into a lead of 6 points. Flynn's dug in and clawed 3 points back when Rudy Nehrling scored a goal from distance, and with the game drawing to a close, they scrambled a goal to bring the teams level. Both sides had chances to win the game thereafter, but good defensive work from Eric Radersdorf for Flynn's and Matt Glasheen for Connors saw both teams remain level at the final whistle. So, in an effort to break the deadlock in Game #5, a rematch is set for next Sunday June 23rd. We hope all those family & friends that came to watch enjoyed the game and the refreshments afterwards.

Game 4 - Flynns Dominates

Pat Flynn's tasted victory for the first time last week - and they've decided that they like it!! They had a convincing win with a scoreline of 7- 6 to 4-8 against Connors, in Game #4 of the Indy Hurling league at Richardt Park, Sunday June 10, 2007. Pat Flynn's were in the driving seat from early on and piled on the pressure with a veritable feast of scoring in the first half. Excellent play from Stephen Quigley, Ian Heraty and Drew Calvert had Connors under serious pressure all the way to the final whistle. For Flynn's the aforementioned players did very well as did Rudy Nehrling who swept up a lot of dangerous situations in the Flynn's defense. For Connors it was a disappointing performance, but they will take heart from the fact that they created numerous opportunities and continued to play hard to the end. So, as the teams head toward Game #5, it's all square in the Indy Hurling league - we wouldn't want it any other way!! As always, the club is grateful to those family and friends who came to watch the game - we hope you enjoyed it!

Pat Flynn's roars back

Oh yes...!!! Pat Flynn's are back with a bang, as they beat Connors on a score-line of 4-7 to 3-4 in Game 3 of the Indy Hurling league at Richardt Park Sunday, 03 June 2007. Another free-flowing encounter saw Pat Flynn's control the tempo for much of the game. They began brightly with some well-taken points from distance, and their early efforts were rewarded with a goal just before halftime. Connors, themselves, responded with a rather lucky goal to keep things pretty even on the stroke of halftime. However, with sterling performances from Jason Crace, in goals for Flynn's, and some excellent stickwork from Drew Calvert up front, Pat Flynn's were not to be denied their victory today. Connors tried hard throughout and kept pressing right to the final whistle but, despite making several chances, it was not enough to snatch victory. The win for Pat Flynn's keeps the league nicely poised at 2-1 to Connors, with 4 games remaining. Once again, Indy Hurling would like to acknowledge all those who came out to support family & friends - your support is much appreciated.

Connors v Pat Flynns, Part Deux

The clash of the ash echoed around Richardt Park, Sunday 20 May 07, as Connors took on Pat Flynn's in round 2 of the Indy Hurling league. This was a full-blooded affair with both sides tackling hard and challenges flying in from the start. This intensity was maintained throughout the game and was coupled with some excellent score-taking by players from both sides. Connors gained the upper hand in the first-half with some good goals scored by their offence. However, Pat Flynn's emerged even more determined in the second-half, and soon had the Connors defence on the back foot, with prolonged periods of pressure. This pressure paid dividends as Pat Flynn's scored a couple of good goals courtesy of Rudy Nehrling and Neal Mulrooney. As the game moved to its conclusion Connors were awarded a free close to goal, and Jon Barton stepped up to score a crucial goal for Connors. This helped to put a little breathing room between the teams and Connors emerged victorious on a score-line of 7-7 to 5-6. Overall, this was a tough, uncompromising encounter with the skills of the game being executed at a higher intensity level than previous games, which augers well for future participation in upcoming tournaments. On the DL

Well folks, it looks like thanks to an unfortunate meeting with Eric under the goal a week ago I'm going to be on the DL for a bit.

Sunday before last (April 29 for those keeping track) I collided with Eric near the end of practice and hurt my finger. I went to the doctor today and found out the diagnosis is mallet finger (torn tendon in my finger) which means I'll be out for 6-8 weeks.

Now... here's were you come in... Since I won't be there for practices and probably not for games I'm going to need your help getting the correct info on club happenings.

I'll still be here... just can't play...

Connor's beats Pat Flynn's in League opener

And so rivalries have been renewed. Once again, Pat Flynn's took on Connor's in the opening game of the 2007 Indy Hurling League at Richardt Park. A bright, sunny Sunday morning saw both teams play a lively, spirited encounter. The pace of the play moved the ball from end to end and there were some excellent passages of play. The level of commitment and effort by both sides could not be faulted and all the skills of the game were put on show, with some tremendous blocks, inter-play and shots on goal by players from both sides. The game ended, 6-3 to 3-3, with victory for Connor's, but Pat Flynn's will be out to avenge that defeat in the next game, scheduled for 20 May 07. Thanks to all members that played on the day.
